Songs We Sing @ Vine 6-28-09

The montage above is from VBS last week. I lead the music but also became the Bible Buddy each day. That was crazy! :)
The kids loved seeing what I was going to do each day. Much laughter and fun! :) All for the Glory of God!

Well, it's a few days late because I've been swamped with VBS this week. Wow, what a week full of much joy and laughter. It's been good. Pictures to follow. and they are funny. Yes I was asked to lead the music. But that's to easy :) I wanted to do something fun and crazy so I decided I would become the Bible Character for the day. Each day :) that has turned out to be very funny to say the least. Anyways, back to the songs from last Sunday. They went really well. We are acoustic all summer which is what we did last summer and it's going very well. People are learning to sing and absorb the words more without the loud electrics and drums and keys. I love being able to hear people sing even with my inears in. That's nice. The whole morning was beautiful and was a blessing to be a part of.

Today we started out acoustic summer and it was nice!   Set up is so much easier with 2 acoustic guitars!  Next week we'll add in some percussion but still acoustics only.  We'll add piano in and some mandolin and some Uke as well over the weeks.
I'm tired and need a nap! :)  So our lights are still messed up!  Crazy, hopefully the lighting company will get it fixed for good this week!  They really need to for VBS and all the camps going on this summer, not to mention worship each sunday!  Ugh :)  Honestly it's been good to not have all the fancy lights for a few weeks.   Just a good reminder to all of us that we don't need any of it.  I hope your mornings went well too.

Today was a great day but I'm really pooped.  Long morning.  The singing part of our worship this morning was refreshing and the band did a fine job today.  My wife Nikki sounded beautiful leading "Desert Song" & "He Leadeth Me".   We had lighting issues again today which was suppose to be fixed but well I guess they didn't really fix it. :)  The lights were flickering so badly that I was starting to feel sick as I'm sure there were other people who were feeling it from the flashing lights.  So we turned them off and had to use our florescent lighting for the gym.   We sang allot today causing us to go over 10 minutes.   It's hard to only have an hour for worship.   Makes it hard to really let the spirit lead when you only have 20 minutes for singing and you know it takes that for your people to relax and start to sing.    Still the morning went very well over all.  Nap time, then dinner, then Orlando VS LA tonight!

I'm pretty worn out right now.  Sundays are so fast paced and full of emotion and energy that I'm just pooped by the time I get home.   Quinn (my 7 year old) and I are on the couch right now watching "Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire".  What a great afternoon.   I love my son.   Anyways, the morning went well.  It was pretty rocking and just busy.  I hope the rest of you had great worship gatherings.

Benediction

Wow, this is the latest I've ever blogged my song set in the last 44 weeks.   This past Sunday was a neat Sunday for me.  The singing was a sweet time but what was most powerful for me was after the message on healing from our past.  Myself and one of the other pastors stood upfront and people came to us as we anointed them with oil and prayed for them.   When we were done I was so unsettled.   I think I prayed for about 20 people and the weight of the needs and hurts was really heavy and when I was done I walked behind the curtain and fell to the ground and wept.   I thought what makes me worthy to pray for these people.  The list of prayers was overwhelming.  Who am I but an awful sinner to pray for these souls.  I felt like I needed to be prayed for.  I'm full of complexity, guilt, pride, and a past that haunts me.    This past Sunday awakened me to a need for prayer.  I need to pray more but I need prayer myself.  I need to be more obedient to God.  I need to live more in His word than I do with music, facebook, and TV.   God I need you more.   More than the stuff of my life.  I repent of needing things that fill the space of my life where you should be.   I've lost grasp of who you have called me to be.   I want you back.  I need a rescue.  I don't just want to sing about you, but I want to breathe you, experience you, live you.  I need you.

Today was a fun day but somewhat strange musically.  We didn't have a bass player today so Stan (keyboards) played bass on one keyboard and keys on another.  How he does that I'll never know :)   It went well but there were times it didn't work.  "The highest praise" didn't work well today.  It just tanked.  We've not really had any real tankers so it was about time we had one :)  It just didn't work this week.  We were off and couldn't find the center of the song.  It was one of those you wish you could just stop playing and go on to the next one.  The rest of the tunes went pretty well though.   My favorite tune this week was "O the Love of the my Redeemer" at least for me.   The church was not singing it today.  Which was odd.  The words and melody are amazing on this song.   The words alone are so powerful!  I couldn't figure that one out.  They sang so quietly on it.   The band sounded good though and the mix was very good.   It was a little discouraging people not engaging with such a good song.  And I've seen them engage with it before and really sing it.  I just don't know.   Is it my fault people weren't singing?   I didn't do any new songs this week either.   Could it be sin in my life?   Or was it because it was the song was after Offering and Baptism and offering buckets were going down and people were sitting down?  We started to sing after the buckets were almost gone.  I know I can't sit and sing.  Or at least I don't enjoy it. I should have asked them to stand one more time I guess.  Well, it was what it was. :)
